Background of the Organization

The Grandparents Resource Center (GRC), located in Denver, Colorado, was formed in 1989, and has a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status, as a non-profit organization. The GRC is a community outreach program that has it primary focus on facilitating family harmony and fosters intergenerational relationships with legal assistance to improving family life of America's future leaders in society through the promotion and support of the roles of grandparenting.

Our major concern is reaching out to children that are slated for, or are already in foster care and re-connecting them with their families. Our goal is for these children not to enter into the "limbo realm" but to be placed in a permanent, safe home. We work with families of these Children to have placement with their grandparents and other suitable family members, and to assist them in the legal process, and support them in raising these youngsters to be useful citizens.

The GRC has given a voice to grandparents by being instrumental in writing and getting the bill H.B. 91-1255 passed for grandparents rights in the State of Colorado. The GRC is dedicated to bringing grandparents and grandchildren, parents and children together, offering some creativity to very complex situations to the increasing number of grandparents who find themselves suddenly raising their grandchildren. It also helps grandparents to acquire legal rights of visitation or custody of their grandchildren either in foster care, in abusive situations, or in broken family conditions that's harmful to them, and provides a support system for them, thus helping the grandparents to maintain a vital status in the family and in society in keeping families together.
